While veteran artists like Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys are playing gigs in Vegas, O-Town has been hard at work on their forthcoming studio album – their fourth – a follow-up to 2014’s ‘Lines and Circles.’
In late 2016, Trevor Penick, Erik Estrada, Jacob Underwood and Dan Miller announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their new album. The quartet raised over $80,000, and on Friday the first half of their EP, aptly titled ‘Part One’, was released exclusively to Kickstarter backers. Simultaneously, the group’s first single, “Empty Space”, was released exclusively to Yahoo!, and is already getting rave reviews from fans and the media.
Given that their entire new album was a Kickstarter project, I admittedly didn’t have high hopes. However, upon hearing “Empty Spaces” for the first time today, I can now say that the single has surpassed my expectations. If the song is any indication as to what O-Town’s new album might sound like, these guys may very well see themselves sitting back atop the music charts and competing alongside current industry favourites like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Harry Styles.
“Empty Space” not only proves that the group can still conjure that pop essence, but also shows they have what it takes to conquer it.
